The WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines is designed for individuals with little or no prior knowledge of wine. It provides a solid and structured introduction to the subject. The qualification is ideal for those who need a basic understanding of the main types and styles of wine, such as individuals working with wine as part of a broader beverage portfolio in retail or hospitality. It is also the perfect systematic entry into the world of wine for enthusiastic private individuals.

Successful candidates will gain knowledge of the key stages of viticulture and winemaking, the fundamental types and styles of wine, and the principal characteristics of wines (including the main grape varieties and other relevant wines). They will understand the essential principles of storing and serving wine and will be able to answer customer questions and make appropriate wine service recommendations.

All topics are presented in an engaging way, with plenty of useful information and concrete wine examples. The tasting focuses on a selection of eight different quality wines, including the most well-known grape varieties and their typical characteristics.
At the end of the course, participants can take an optional written test (multiple-choice questions) in German. Upon successfully passing the test, each participant receives an official digital certificate from London.
The course can also be offered as an in-house training seminar for staff development. In this format, there is sufficient time to cover company-specific topics such as product presentation, customer interaction, service, etc. The wine samples can be tailored to the company’s own product range.

Was andere sagen

JESSICA RIHM

„I chose an WSET course because I'm interested in wines and wanted to join the course to systematically learn the knowledge. Also I might consider this as a career option so a certificate would be useful. "Das Weininstitut München" is the only institute in Germany I know offering WSET courses in English. I apprechiated our two teachers, Stefan and Bernhard who are very knowledgable and communicative.“
